Kent Knights it is time to get ready for the upcoming the WYFC Farm League for the 7v7, 5v5 and Girls Flag season. This registration will allow you to complete contact information, sign up for participation, size uniforms and submit payment.
7v7 is for 3rd grade through 8th grade skilled positions (QB,WR,RB,DB) separated into grade groups consistent with tackle football. Teams are 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 for 7v7 and there are no tryouts required. 5v5 is for 5th grade through 8th grade and designed for the lineman (C,G,T,DE)positions and separated into grade groups consistent with tackle football as well. Teams are 5/6 and 7/8 for 5v5 and no tryouts are required. If your 2nd grader (7v7) or 4th grader (5v5) would like to play up and participate, please send us an email to discuss. Additionally, due to the popularity of the 3/4th grade 7v7 season last year the WYFC is having them do a full schedule this year (8 games) plus playoffs just like the older kids.
The WYFC/Kent Knights is excited to announce we will be offering 7/8th grade Girls Flag football for this upcoming season. Girls Flag Football is an up-and-coming sport that will be included in the WIAA High School sports offerings as a recognized State sport for the High Schools in the near future.
Registration Fee is $150 for all athletes plus the cost of Gamebreaker softshell helmet and mouthguard which runs about $50. The registration price includes uniform (shirt and shorts) that the player keeps. Gloves are also available for purchase for an additional fee but not required. If you played in our program last year and your Kent Knights helmet is still in good condition and fits, you will not be required to purchase another. The online store to purchase the helmet from Gamebreaker will be sent via email once teams are confirmed.
WHY 7v7, 5v5 and Flag ?
Great way to keep players in shape during the off season.
Develop the essential skills of the game like footwork, conditioning, handwork, stance and starts needed for all positions at all levels.
To build relationships within the community so we can keep the youth playing sports in Kent with their friends where they will soon be playing under the lights for their high school at French Field.
The practice schedule is minimal so they can participate in other athletics they enjoy and still take advantage of practices and tournaments that will help players stay in shape for the following sports seasons.
Players get to play in a position they desire versus a position decided by a depth chart. If you have an athlete that was a lineman for tackle football but really wants to work on a skilled position this is their opportunity to do so and get some reps. If you are a tight end who wants to work on blocking techniques then perhaps 5v5 is the route for you.
When does the season start and end?
Practices will begin in late January or early February based on the league schedule which is finalized in December of 2024. Practices will be held primarily at French Field or the baseball field behind Kent Meridian High School if French Field is not available.
Tournaments take place in February through April then playoffs in early May. By popular demand the Kent Knights will be attempting to arrange their schedule later in the WYFC season when it is warmer and not spread the schedule out to much through the Season.
Practices are normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm depending on field availability with the school district. Tournaments, or “Bowl Games” as the league likes to call them, are on the weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and the time commitment is only half a day either in the AM session or the PM session. You are not there all day on your weekend.
Where are tournaments held?
From South Seattle/Renton to the North to Spanaway Lake in the South is the range. For the most part it is in and against the NJFL teams we compete against in Tackle Football currently.
This is not a travel team league, and everything will be right in the South Puget Sound area.
